I'm starting this part of his blog at just over 7.5 months. So I have a lot of catching up to do. But we start with my little fella turning 6 months old. 6 months old and already in 9-12 month clothes. He's just starting to master sitting up but certainly isn't crawling yet. He's really good at standing and is an adorable, clever, strong, happy chappy. Here he is trying out his forward facing car seat that has just arrived as he now weighs over 9kg. 26 weeks +2. 6 months old. Quiche. I chopped some red pepper and mushrooms up small and pre cooked them in a little oil, added some cheese and eggs and put In a pastry lined dish. He seemed to enjoy it. Pastry perhaps more so than the egg part. Again he kept picking up pieces and putting them in the round parts of the tray. Funny boy. Nice and easy meal to make and eat if you buy in the pastry. It was certainly easy for him to pick up but perhaps messier, with crumbs etc., than I was expecting. So I'm not sure if this will do for taking out for lunches. Perhaps not most BLW babies 6 month first food as this isn't his first food. To me and my family it's nice he's already eating "proper" food at 6 months. But then some babies are started right away on whatever their parents are eating. That wasn't for me though. 26 weeks +3. Chickpea burgers with a yoghurt and cucumber dip. These were a recipe from the BLW book and they were rather yummy. They formed together quite well and were certainly tasty. I wasn't sure if he'd like them but true to form he did. They were also really easy to hold and eat. I just put some of the dip on what he was eating but in the near future I'm hoping he'll figure out dipping himself. He doesn't look too impressed in the photo. Haha! 26 weeks +4. Trying to succeed with bananas again. So far every time I've given him banana it's not been easy for him to pick up. But he's certainly enjoyed what he has managed. I've also heard brown bananas are good for constipation so that's good as apparently the yellow ones bung them up! I gave him some with the peel still on the bottom but as per normal he picked it up ok and then as soon as he started eating it out popped the banana and he then struggled to pick that back up. I'd read somewhere that people had cut the banana in half and then pinched it together so it breaks apart into three long strips. I hadn't been convinced at the time but I was surprised and pleased to see it actually worked. He picked it up REALLY easily. Even when it broke into smaller pieces he was hardly chasing them around at all. I think he managed about half a banana.... pretty soon after this he was managing almost 3/4 of a banana for his breakfast. (that's not every day of course!), Banana is now a firm favourite in the fruit world. First pic is him holding the part with the peel on ... and the long strips lying in waiting. Second pic is the smaller broken off pieces that he was also managing to pick up. I was amazed! 26 weeks +4. Tortilla wraps filled with tuna, a little spreadable cheese and chopped tomatoes. Ah ha! A way to get him used to tomatoes. I chopped them up really small and mixed with some tinned tuna (in water so there's less salt added) and a little spreadable cheese and warmed through in the oven. He really enjoyed this. Needless to say the wraps didn't stay rolled for long. He has a tendency to pick things up in the middle of them so when he did they just fell apart. But hey ho! He managed just fine. He was trying to eat too big a pieces at times but what was too big came back out. Another success and a nice easy lunch. 26 weeks +4. Lasagne with beef mince. I made sure his portion was well cooled before giving him it. He seems to refuse any food that is even remotely warm so I didn't want him refusing his first try of one of my favourite foods. I made it without stock as I'm struggling to find salt free stock cubes in France but I did add some wine (& boiled it down of course). I just cut his portion into three and let him get on with it
He loved sucking at it and certainly managed to suck a lot of the mince off. He did eat some of the pasta too but seemed more keen on the cheesy topping and the mince. I did take a piece out of his mouth at one point though as he'd been sat there for ages with it in there and not even attempting to chew it. Messy meal but then I think anything with a tomato sauce will be. Nothing a few wet wipes and a good rinse out of the bib won't sort out.
